Some things you will quickly learn about me: I love yoga, coffee, baking, and curling up with a good book (all of which are possible on a boat!). I’ve spent a few years traveling and living abroad, so moving across the country wasn’t that big of a stretch for me.

I had never sailed before the first day on Griffin, and can’t believe what I was missing out on. This past year has been exhilarating, and this blog is a way for me to not only share my experiences, but also to really reflect on our adventures.

My parents have warned Amanda about me – always finding a way into trouble, but also finding a way out. The past year has been no exception, but have also given me a new perspective on my life goals.

Sailing is something that I hadn’t had experience with since I was a child, almost drowning as I tried to rescue my wallet from a watery grave, but it’s quickly become an essential part of my life. I still can’t picture life without a cabin in the woods somewhere, but now know that I’ll always want Amanda and I to have a place on the water as well.

We’ve had Leonard since he was just eight weeks old, and it’s been one crazy adventure after another for him! From cottaging in Ontario, to multiple trips across the country, he’s seen it all. The past year has really been a chance for him to become the BEST boat dog ever (no bias at all), one who gets just as excited when his lifejacket goes on as when it comes off.

This dog has had more excitement in his life than some people – although there are definitely times when he wants nothing more than a bit of quiet time to sleep in (particularly in the morning). He’s only two years old at this point, and has no idea of the adventures that will be coming his way!

As a family

In the past year the three of us have set off to drive across the country, live on a boat, and explore the West coast. We have had our ups and downs, and along the way have tied the knot. The past year has taught us a lot and given us a lot to work toward.
